Juicing- Is It Really Good For You?

It was 10 years ago that I was first introduced to juicing, and I thought it was a great idea, until I did some research on it.  I read all I possibly could on the subject and here is what I found...

 

Though juicing may be nutritious and healthy, it is also high in sugars and lacks any fiber content.  Combine high sugar with no fiber and you have a blood sugar spike just waiting to happen, followed by a real big crash.  Why is this not good?  When dieting, it is important to keep your blood sugar swings at a minimum.  The reason is, your body responds to eating a lot of sugar by secreting insulin- a hormone produced by the pancreas.  Insulin lowers blood sugar by increasing the rate at which glucose is taken up by cells.  This, in turn leads to the big CRASH.  Continued abuse of your blood sugar levels leads to stress within your body and a decrease in health and immunity.

 

My best advice if you do choose to juice or do a cleanse, is to make sure you are not just drinking the juice.  Add in some good fiber from a reputable source, and drink slowly throughout the day.  This will keep your sugar from swinging too high or low, and provide your body with less stress.
